I've created a new set of products featuring Marie having a cup of tea! I've taken vintage images from different cards and put them together. They're separated into packages that can be used separately or together, since they all coordinate with each other. Whether you're having a party or giving a gift, isn't it just lovely to have everything coordinate? Plus, each of these printable items are easy to make - just print, cut and add a little double stick tape or other adhesive, and you're ready to go. Marie Tea Card w/Envelope

You can make this card with Marie on the front or on the inside. Beautiful card ready to go…or cut out extras from the additional sheets provided and layer for a 3D effect. Layer as much or as little as you like. For another version, print the oval rose frame on the front, cut out the center, and reveal Marie on the inside of the card – again, layered or not. Add embellishments such as feathers, glitter, ribbon…whatever you like. Also includes the envelope. You can also make the layered Marie vignette so that it will lift out (or make a second one). Add a ribbon to hang or put a magnet strip on the back – looks great on the refrigerator or a dresser! This works great as an invitation/save the date piece too. Made it myself Monday...

I have a couple of old t-shirts, sweatshirts and a nightgown that I just hate to part with, but they're not in ideal shape for wearing. So I cut off the arms & neck, and sewed them up as covers for pillows that I already had.

Just cut off the excess, turn inside out and sew up along three sides. On the last side, make a casing and put a piece of ribbon through. Makes it easy to take off and wash, and looks kind of neat too. We're remodeling our sunroom, but I think it's still cozy. I love to sit there first thing in the morning and watch (and listen) to the birds with my kitty cat Jasmine. (I gave her a piece of catnip :)

The French Azilum Museum and Marie Antoinette

My Husband, Brother, Niece, Mom and I like to take day trips. My Husband has been doing a great deal of ancestor research, and recently, we went to the Quicks Bend area in Pennsylvania to locate gravesites of some of his relatives' burial sites. On our way there, we passed by a Historical Landmark where I had spent some time when I was a teenager. It's the French Azilum Museum.

According to the Historic Pennsylvania Leaflet No. 11, "...for a little group of exiles who stepped ashore...in the fall of 1793, it was a haven far removed from the dangers of revolution, imprisonment, slave insurrections, and yellow fever. To them it was Azilum - a place of refuge"...Some of "the exiles, their families, and according to a story so far unverified, even the Queen of France herself, the ill-fated Marie Antoinette, and her two children would here at last find peace and security... The rise of radicals to power compelled (DeNoailles, brother-in-law of Lafayette) to abandon France, leaving all his family, including his mother, who had been chief maid of honor to Marie Antoinette." DeNoailles and others planned the colony at Standing Stone in PA. It's very interesting touring the building and grounds at the French Azilum museum. It's fun to imagine what it would have been like if Marie had made it there! It's facinating to have a piece of that history so close to where I live and grew up.

With that background, I have a new Marie Tea Party set coming up in the next few days in my store at digiprintables. It would be fabulous for a birthday party, shower or, of course, a tea party. You can see a preview of the vintage image I used ( shown here textured and cropped) that I got from Twistedpapers on my blog background. It features Marie kicking back with a cup of tea :)

Made it myself Monday....

Alex at You Had Me At Craft is sponsoring Made it myself Mondays, and I have a project to share this week. Then I also found Making Monday Marvelous , Inspire Me Mondays and Making The World Cuter.

I saw this beehive pinata project in Country Living Magazine's Idea Notebook, in the June 2011 issue, and fell in love with it.

I was at one time a professional beekeeper, so I have a softspot for anything with bees. Now, this beehive project is not much like a honey bee hive - it's more kin to a white-faced (or..uh...butt) hornet nest. As a beekeeper, we removed many of these nests and collected the bees for anti-venom use. And the bees are more like bumble bees, who have another type of nest. But this is still the sweetest thing I've seen in awhile.

My Mom's birthday was coming up, so I decided to make this for her. The directions are super simple to follow, and the materials are easy to find. It does take a few days to complete, because of the drying time, but I found it to "bee" well worth it! Knowing my Mom, I left the top open so that we didn't have to break it. Sure enough, the first thing she said after "Oh, I love it!" was "We're not breaking it!". I think I might make a few more of the bees to put in my kitchen window :)

Super easy to make - just download, print, cut out and put a piece of doublestick tape on the tab - and you're ready to go! To make it more fancy, I've included a sheet of butterflies to cut out and disperse as you like around the shade. Add some ribbon, glitter, feathers…whatever embellishments you like!

Free Recipie - Crumbly Cheese "Cookies"

I confess, I can eat the whole recipe! My theory is that the butter & cheese cut down the carbs from the flour and rice cereal :) These are great to go with a meal, or for tea time. I hope you'll enjoy them too.

Crumbly Cheese "Cookies"

2 c. flour
2 sticks soft butter
2 c. rice krispies
2 c. grated sharp cheddar cheese

Mix all ingredients together. Use your hands to form cookies. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes on ungreased pan. Let cool before eating.

Valentine Items in my stores

I have some Valentine theme items in my stores - using Vintage graphics from twistedpapers.com. The Marie card is pretty printed just as she is, but there are extra sheets included so that you can layer the card. There are extra layers for the inside as well as the outside. Choose your own combinations.

Shown here I added a little blue feather between layers, and made extra layers of the green/rose background, then the Marie image w/heart. I added layers with her skirt, hat and arm, as well as a butterfly. I used ModPodge to gloss, then sprinkled on a fine layer of gold glitter from Martha Stewart. For the inside of the card, you can leave it plain or layer on your choice of two Marie images in cages, some quotes that Marie Antionnette said, and of course more butterflies.

For the cute little candy box, simply print and cut, add a little tape or glue and insert a piece of transparency film or other clear material, and put some candy inside. It's adorable, and has a little card w/envelope to match!

The other items all coordinate. There's a card w/envelope and two gift boxes that are like little purses. You'll also find a pretty little jewelry box. Simply pierce a hole for earrings, pendant or ring. There's enough room for a whole jewelry set.

It's almost Christmas! Wednesday is Rednesday at SueLovesCherries and then it's Vintage Things Thursday at Colorado lady. I'm looking forward to going over to both blogs and checking out all the wonderful things that every one posts!
Here is a picture of my little fur babies. Miss Beddy is on the left, Jasmine is on the right. Jasmine was adopted from an area shelter as a tiny baby. They were taken from their mother too soon, so were fostered by a wonderful couple. I took Jasmine because she was the hardest to get to handle. It took me a full month to be able to catch her in our home, but once I did, she bonded tightly with me. She's a blue-point Siamese. Jasmine is around 9.
Miss Beddy, as a tiny thing, was living in our raised flower bed in our old house (that's where her name came from). She had broken her hind foot badly. Little by little as I put food out for her, she let me hold her. She totally melted my heart when she looked up at me from my lap and then came up to my face and put her paw on my cheek, then her cheek on my cheek. I was a gonner! We think she's a Ragg (don't know if that's spelled right). I never saw a cat who put her belly up so much. She's extremely soft and silky. Beddy is around 2 years old. (Her foot healed nicely :)
The caption for this photo is "We're just looking Mom, honest!" They've only knocked the tree over once so far....

Cardnials that I painted

I saw this on our wall the other day and decided to use it for a Rednesday. When I was probably 17 or so we had a Christmas Card that I liked, and I sat down and sketched and enlarged it onto watercolor paper and painted it. This is a lousy scan, but this is it. I think it's pretty good for a kid. I had given it to my Grandparents, and it hung on their wall for a long time, then I think my parents, then I got it back.

I haven't done much painting in recent years, and when I did, I gave the item away for a gift. When I fell this last March and bent my fingers backwards, I didn't know if I'd be able to paint again. I haven't tried, but I think I may be able to do ok, thanks to my hand therapists....something to add to my list of "to do"s!

Since this was done when I was a kid, it probably qualifies for vintage...or at least retro! ;) Hope everyone has a great day!

My mother remembers my Grandmother getting her when my Uncle Paul was little. She held pancake syrup. I tried to photograph the markings on her, but I couldn't get the right lighting. Red Oxalis

It's Rednesday At Sue Loves Cherries. My red this week is a red oxalis plant that my Sister gave my Mom several weeks ago. I asked for a piece of it, and put it on some water on my kitchen window. I just love it - the color and shape are darling. And guess what - it rooted!

Oh yeah, there's also a little tomato that came up as a "volunteer" in some plants my Sister gave me earlier this summer. We brought the tomato in while it was still yellow because we were due to get a heavy frost. It ripened on the windowsill. It's the only tomato I saw around here that wasn't blighted this year. And of course, there's my little copper angel - I made the for Christmas presents a few years back.

My brother gave me this darling angel for my birthday this year. She's a "Knucklehead Angel".

Gifts In A Jar

A home-made gift is always a great idea! It can also be a way to economize in your gift giving. I think these food gifts will be more popular than ever this year, so I've started a MckLinky that will be available from now through December 13th this year.
Just make a blog post with a "recipe" for your gift in a jar, then add it to the MckLinky on the side of my blog. This will make a nice reference of tasty gift giving!

Just in case some of you have never heard of these, you take a jar - canning jars work best - and layer dry ingredients in them. Put the lid on and if you like cover with a square or round of pretty fabric or tissue paper and tie with raffia, ribbon or even a rubber band. Include the card for the "wet" ingredients to be added. These make a great gift. All the recipient has to do is dump it out and add the extra ingredients and they have a full batch of a dessert or a meal. And they look great sitting on the counter in the meantime! A gift sure to be appreciated.

To get us started, here's a great recipe that I found online years ago.

EASY BUTTERSCOTCH-OATMEAL COOKIES
1/2 cup butterscotch chips
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 cup old-fashioned oats
1 cup buttermilk biscuit and baking mix
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup buttermilk biscuit and baking mix
Instructions for layering ingredients:
In 1-quart wide-mouth glass jar, gently layer and pack ingredients in the order listed. (There will be 2 cups of biscuit mix total.) If there is any space left after adding the last ingredient, add more baking chips, dried fruits or nuts to fill the jar.
Place lid on top. Cut an 8-inch circle of fabric to cover lid. Place fabric over lid; secure in place with a rubber band, then ribbon or raffia. Decorate as desired.
Note: When measuring brown sugar, crumble it between your fingers for uniform texture. Be sure to pack the brown sugar firmly in the jar to prevent the baking mix from sifting down through it.
Make a gift card to attach as follows:
Empty contents of jar into medium bowl. Stir in 1 stick of butter or margarine, melted; 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until well combined. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on baking sheets coated with cooking spray. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until cookies are light golden brown.
Makes 2-1/2 dozen cookies

To make cookies as bars: Empty contents of jar into medium bowl. Stir in 1 stick of butter or margarine, melted; 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until well combined. Press into an 8×8-inch baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 24 minutes or until bars are light golden brown and center is almost set
Makes 16 bar cookies.

I was the happy winner of some presents from Penniwigs' Blog. I expected a popcorn ball, but to my delight there was an extra bonus of some gorgeous acorns. Acorns are one of my favorite things, right along with leaves. Thank you so much Holly!! (By the way, the popcorn ball and candy were gone within minutes. I shared them with my husband - we both enjoyed them very much as we rarely splurge on candy!!!) Such a bright spot in our day!

It's REDnesday again at "It's A Very Cherry World".

Since last week I found my older cookbook. This is from Better Homes & Gardens, and goes back to 1941, this one being printed in 1946. The pages are very brown and brittle on the edges, but I like the format of the book. It is separated by tabbed sections, then the recipes are in paragraph style. Here's a page from the pie section. I think I really prefer the recipes in this format, although I haven't figured out what order they're in - it's not alphabetical.

Although this was not from my family, there are great treasures written within the book. For instance, there's a tip to use 2 Tbsp of lemon juice for 1 qt of canned tomatoes in place of salt.

This Wednesday I looked to my old friend - Betty Crocker - and my vintage cookie jar, for my red things. As you can see, they've been with me for years, always faithful and good. A friend I can always turn to, and I can still find something new - within the pages of the cook book (not so much in the cookie jar - I'll have to do something about that).

Wreath I Made

I thought I'd post a photo of the wreath I made from plants in our side yard. I used queen anne's lace for the base, then filled in with goldenrod, knapweed (small purple blossoms), wild lemon thyme, St. John's Wort (the reddish seed pods) and yarrow. Later on I added some dried dock which is dark brown. It's a bright addition to a room and smells great.

Fall is here...at least it starts tomorrow. I hope everyone was signed up for the newsletter from www.twistedpapers.com and got the free downloads. I am pleased to be featured in the newsletter this month!

I hope you also visited the website, but if not I'll give you a glimpse of one of the sets I made. It's really great for a fall party or get together.

I took a block of foam, covered it with tissue paper and tied raffia around it, then stuck the lollipop handles down into the foam.

The candy makes it inexpensive, but the coordinating covers make a rich display!

Rednesday at Sue Loves Cherries

It's a very cherry world - REDNESDAY. I had a chance to go for a longer walk and get some of the "birdsfoot trefoil" that I mentioned last week. Plus a branch from the hawthorn with red berries. Took the photo on my grandmother's tablecloth - that I love more every time I look at it.

We have a lot of gorgeous acorns- should be enough to feed the deer all winter! As much as I love fall, I don't want it to be here yet. Now if it would just last for 3-4 months and winter was only 1-2 months...but in upstate NY, that's not gonna happen!! LOL

I was going for a walk. Since I found "Sue Loves Cherries" blog, I always have tucked in the back of my mind to look for "red" things for Wednesdays. On my walk I found that the crown vetch which grows in our yard has seeds that are red in color. The red tone is brighter in the sunlight - my photos here haven't captured that hue entirely. But what I'm also facinated by is the resemblance to a bird's foot. We also have "Birdsfoot Trefoil" growing nearby, but I didn't walk that far to get a picture of those seeds...I'll save that for another day. Pretty neat, huh?

I was putting together a set for www.3scrapateers.com for the daily download for the month of September. It has a composition notebook theme. I took a break and went vintage blog hopping, and found the graphic of the rooster and hen at www.thevintagemoth.blogspot.com. It was one of the free graphics offered on the site. I loved it and put it to work on a notebook (which is modeled after an old vintage notebook), a gift box and gift bag that also have the composition notebook theme.

Here’s a picture of the whole set. There are items for scrapbooking as well as printables – and they all coordinate.

I call this little mouse “Matilda” because I think she looks like she’s ready to waltz. My dear Grandmother made her several years ago. Grandma discovered that when you open up an old feather pillow, the feathers line the inside of the ticking and make wonderful mice. She made several, but I think little Matilda is made from wool.

Matilda is complete with toes, a tail, whiskers, eyes and a seed-bead nose, plus a little hat and shawl.

Normally modest, I didn't think she'd mind if I showed you her little toes.

She’s a treasure to me, as are the pincushions shown in the background. My Grandmother made several of these as well, with the thimble holder attached. She decorated them with tiny pieces of lace and tatting.

Tip: print a coordinating sheet of tissue paper to wrap around the gift – a professional touch! (How to print on tissue paper? Carefully tape a piece of tissue wrapping paper to the edge of a piece of cardstock. Use the “transparency” setting on your printer.)
