Rednesday Wednesday

It's REDnesday again at "It's A Very Cherry World".

Since last week I found my older cookbook. This is from Better Homes & Gardens, and goes back to 1941, this one being printed in 1946. The pages are very brown and brittle on the edges, but I like the format of the book. It is separated by tabbed sections, then the recipes are in paragraph style. Here's a page from the pie section. I think I really prefer the recipes in this format, although I haven't figured out what order they're in - it's not alphabetical.

Although this was not from my family, there are great treasures written within the book. For instance, there's a tip to use 2 Tbsp of lemon juice for 1 qt of canned tomatoes in place of salt.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

  5. Hi Robin! I love this cookbook too! The plaid design on it is great, and I like any cookbook that has substitutions in it, because I rarely have all the ingredients I need! I bet there's all kinds of pearls of wisdom jotted down in there!
    Happy Rednesday!

  6. I love old cookbooks. You get get some real "keeper" recipes from them. And it's always fun to read the handwritten additions to recipes!

  7. Hi Robin! I like that format, too. Don't know why they don't still use it. Will have to keep my eye open for one of those! Thanks for sharing it!

  8. I had to go check mine 'cause yours looks so familiar. Yep, 1946. It's falling apart and missing a few pages. It was my Great Grandmother's and she incribed "Rec'd from P & E
Dec. 31st, 1946. Wish I knew who P & E were! Thanks for sharing and bringing back some memories!

  9. Boy it's good to see something older than me!!
Makes me feel quite young again.
Simple recipe books are always the most practical ones to use, who has time to read all those new fandangle ones that look pretty and take forever to tell you what Betty Crocker could say in a few short lines.
    Great REDnesday post Robin.
    Hugs,
    Sandi
